“PITTSBURGH RUTH” Grand Piano
The 1921 Steinway & Sons Model M grand piano, known as the “Pittsburgh Ruth” piano, carries with it more than a century of musical history and family legacy. Originally built in New York and later gifted as a 21st birthday present to Ruth Allen of Pittsburgh—celebrated as the city’s first baby of the new century—the instrument has traveled through four generations before arriving in its present home in Dallas.
After years of storage and environmental damage, the piano underwent a complete restoration, returning the instrument to both its visual elegance and musical integrity. The cabinet was refinished in a stunning high-gloss black, while the interior was carefully rebuilt with new strings, restored hardware, and a fully regulated action to restore the expressive tone that Steinway pianos are known for.
This particular Model M also features a QRS player system, blending historic craftsmanship with modern technology. The result is a remarkable instrument that honors its past while continuing to fill a home with music for generations to come.
